Chinese Adoption
Miracles do happen…

…sometimes with the help of Heritage. To describe the adoption of our third child from China in any other way would not do it justice.

We had already adopted two girls from China with the help of Heritage. When we found out that Heritage would start receiving referrals for special needs children, we asked Vicki Paulson to contact us if she got a referral for a boy. A few months later, our phone rang – the first batch of referrals Vicki received had two boys. The first one was five years old. We did not want to adopt out of birth order – our girls were seven and three at the time. The second boy was ten months old. He was in need of surgery for his cleft palate. We asked Vicki to send us the information and his picture. As they say – the rest is history.

The time until we brought our son home was like a rollercoaster ride. So many things happened along the way – at first we did not meet the income requirements for a special needs child, the INS process proceeded very slowly, changed jobs, etc…. Eventually though everything fell into place. All along, Vicki Paulson and Kathy Wang believed that this little boy was meant to be ours. Vicki provided a lot of emotional support during the times we got discouraged.

In China, Kathy eagerly met us at the airport. On the way to the hotel, she gave us some advice regarding the adoption of a toddler. She knew that we had adopted the girls as infants and wanted us to be prepared for this experience to be somewhat different. Then she provided us with information she had obtained from our son’s orphanage. Before he was brought to us, we knew about his eating and sleeping habits, his likes and dislikes, and his nickname. This was very helpful. The entire adoption process went very smoothly thanks to Kathy. She also easily related to our eight-year old daughter and treated her like a little sister. She was able to arrange a visit to the city of her birth and her children’s home. It was a very touching experience which gave our daughter a better understanding of her roots.

We highly recommend Heritage and its wonderful staff. Without their help, our son would not be with us.
