The day we adopted Jonathan (who we usually call Jonny) five years ago counts easily as one of the happiest of both our lives. The adoption happened very quickly. We became parents with three days notice! It was love at first sight, really. Everyone kept saying "Being parents will change your lives, you know!" and of course it has, but in extremely positive ways. I guess part of what has made it so joyful for us was that we wanted to be parents for so long. Jonny's birth mom has been wonderful to work with, and Jonny is just a great kid. He is full of life. He has boundless enthusiasm. He is vital, curious, honest, and kind. We have learned much from him: about living in the moment, about spirit, about not having nearly as many answers as we once thought we did.

We appreciate everything the staff at Heritage has done for us — from running our adoption classes and being our adoption "matchmakers", to being there in the hospital and giving us a list of the things we needed to care for a newborn (and we needed to find them fast!). We appreciate them for caring about Jonathan, his birth mom, and us, and for their sound advice over the past five years.
