RECOMMENDED RESOURCE LIST
The following is a list of books, online courses, and multimedia resources that Heritage recommends to all adoptive families, whether they are just beginning to consider adoption or have a growing adoptive family already! Click on the above link to Tapestry Books to see Tapestry’s full line of adoption resources and/or order some of the resources below.
Adoption Learning Partners is a resource developed through a grant to Children’s Home Society. Courses offered include Let’s Talk Adoption, Conspicuous Families for those adopting transracially, With Eyes Wide Open for families adopting internationally, The Adoption Tax Credit, and more. They are continually developing more excellent classes. You can find them at www.adoptionlearningpartners.org.
Perspectives Press is an online resource developed by author and speaker Patricia Johnston. Included are many articles and books on adoption and infertility. Ms. Johnston is an adoptive mother of three children, as well as having worked in just about every aspect of adoption over many, many years. She has a great deal of wisdom of her own to share, as well as offering the work of other writers. This site can be found at www.perspectivespress.com.
The Adoption Shop is an excellent resource for adoption-related jewelry, lifebooks, dolls, books, scrap booking materials, art, poetry, adoption announcements, travel aids and other resources. They have items for adopted people, adoptive parents and birth parents. Look for them at www.adoptionshop.com.
Adoptive Families magazine is written by and for … well, adoptive families! A wonderful source of encouragement, it offers the opportunity to learn directly from others who share many of the same experiences you have or will soon. Go to www.adoptivefamilies.com to subscribe.
Insight is an excellent resource to learn about open adoption, particularly from a birth parent’s point of view. Author and speaker Brenda Romanchik has done an excellent job of providing resource materials for all involved. Find her work at www.r2press.com.
